WORKSHOP WITH IME ESSIEN - HASSEL
Essential Communication (Process Inquiry®) / Authentic Performance (Dansergia®)
First workshop for NAO Project, in partnership with Association Lifewrok and supported by Fondazione Cariplo
The class combines the Cunningham placement/movement work, the swinging quality of Limón and release work on the floor. The main focus though lies on the Authentic Per-form-ance = moving through the form and letting the form be the movement.
This is deepened in the research workshop where Essien supports each dancer to engage in a personal inquiry into the question: Who is the person dancing and how can she/he express her/his essence to the fullest? She will use ‘techniques’ from Dansergia® (from the words dance and energy, a method that invites us to move consciously from within and to express only what wants to be expressed).
By using the approach of Process Inquiry®, Essien guides the dancer in an efficient way to find his/her own solution to problems and to learning. The necessary change might not even take place on a physical level or in the studio. The learner becomes its own teacher. Process Inquiry® in a dance context means empowerment, creativity, versatility and honesty and therefore supports the dancer/ learner to become responsible and independent - to be the artist.
IME ESSIEN - HASSEL
Born in Nigeria, Ime Essien - Hassel has studied dance in Germany. Her career led her to Netherlands, to Belgium, where she worked with Charleroi Dance/ Plan K and Sweden, engaged as rehearsal director and teacher for the contemporary dance company NorrDans. She assisted, restaged and accompanied creations of several renown choreographers such as Rui Horta, Steven Petronio, Jo Stromgren, Allen Kaeja, Ted Stoffer, Jessica Iwansson, Roberto Zappalà and many more. Since 2000 Essien-Hassel has studied the essential communication technique Process Inquiry® (www.lifeenergyprocess.de; www.instituteforlifeenergy.com), a method that translates any content into an energy process and helps each person to respectfully and efficiently get to the essence of a problem and work therefore toward her/his solution.
Workshop is open to intermediate and advanced dancers
